Velma E. Bailey

November 27, 1922 - July 26, 2017

Velma E. Bailey, age 94, died on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Mrs. Bailey was born in Henderson County, TN, on November 27, 1922, the daughter of the late John Floyd and Lessie Mae Knowles Garner. She was married to William R. Bailey, Sr. who preceded her in death on August 9, 2009. She was a graduate of Browns High School and attended the Belmont School of Business in Nashville. She was a former member of the Nashway Baptist Church of Jackson. She was an avid gardener who had a special “green thumb” for growing flowers. She was an accomplished seamstress with the ability of sewing anything. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed providing delicious meals for her family. She was described by her children as a caring, loving, graceful and selfless mother. She is survived by her children, Richard Bailey of Jackson, TN; Suzanne Bailey of Jackson, TN; Dianne Childers of Longview, TX; Tony Bailey of Jackson, TN; Lisa David and husband Mark of Jackson, TN; Darlene Bailey of Jackson, TN; and Sam Bailey of Jackson, TN; son-in-law, Charles Newton of Jackson, TN; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Bailey of Jackson, TN; brother, Fred Garner of Jackson, TN; sister-in-law, Verlin Garner of Jackson, TN; sister, Reba David of Jackson, TN; sixteen grandchildren, Tracy Wiggins (Chuck), Julie Bonom (David), William R. Bailey III (Gina), Melissa Watson (Richard), Steven Bailey (Beverly), Amy Harrison (Glenn), Brian Cisco, Rachel Wehr (Dean), Anthony Green, Shanaun Green, James Richard Bailey, Bailey Childers, George Childers (Ang), Matthew David (Hailey), Nichole David and Courtney Brown (Nicholas); sixteen great grandchildren, Ashton, Brock and Bailey Wiggins, Brayden and DaKota Watson, Maggie Bailey, Brandon and Justin Cisco, Cayden Harrison, Max and Evie Wehr, Wyatt, Sadie, Ellie and Emma David and Natalie Brown. She was preceded in death by four children, Brenda Newton, William R. “Bill” Bailey, Jr., Barbara Jo Taylor and Alice Bailey; daughter -in-law, Karen Bailey; son-in-law, Walker Childers; sister-in-law, Peggy Garner; two brothers, Joe Garner and Milton Garner and his wife Virginia; sisters, Alice Poindexter and husband Grady, Beulah Garner and husband Jim and a brother-in-law Doug David and a grandchild, Michelle Bailey. SERVICES: A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Cotton Grove Cemetery, with Dr. Brent Lay officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Arrington Funeral Directors. Arrington Funeral Directors, 148 W.
