Steven Mack Lawson

Steven M. Lawson, age 77, entered his heavenly home on September 10, 2022, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born in Memphis, TN on August 20, 1945, the son of the late Mack Edward and Ruth Skelton Lawson. Steven was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he attended Air War College and Radar School, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He retired from Regional Hospital of Jackson and Jackson-Madison County General Hospital as an industrial engineer.
Steven was an accomplished pilot owning three different planes during his lifetime. He shared his passion for flying by assisting many young pilots in receiving their instrument ratings. After retirement, he was continually active in the Arboretum documentation of First Presbyterian Church and Liberty Park.
Active in his church, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson since 1970, and served as a Deacon, Elder, a member of the property committee and in the church choir. When his children were young, he was the sound engineer operating the sound booth for the church.
He was active in the Woodland Shores HOA on the Tennessee River, serving as Director of their Water Board, as well as other activities. On Sunday mornings while at the river, Steven would actively participate with the residents of the Woodland Shores community in worship services held on the riverbank.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Horton Lawson of Jackson, TN; daughter, Ashlee Lawson Carlton and husband Patrick of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren, Grier and Beckett Carlton of Brentwood, TN; brother, John Lawson, and sister, Anna George, both of Oakland, TN.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Neal Andrew Lawson in 2000.
SERVICES: A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at Ridgecrest Cemetery with Rev. John White of First Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Arrington Funeral Directors prior to the service.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow in Memorial Hall.
