Shelby Lynne Rushing

Shelby Lynne Rushing, age 31, passed away in her mother’s arms and surrounded by her family on March 3, 2022, in Jackson, TN after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born May 18, 1990, in Jackson and graduated from South Side High School, where she was an honor student and an active member of the theater. She was in the last graduating class of Lambuth University in Jackson, where she majored in psychology. She is survived by her father, Steve Rushing (Kathy) of Pinson, TN; her mother and stepfather, Lynn Willingham Hunt and John Hunt of Medon, TN; sister, Taylor Rushing; paternal grandfather, Dan Rushing; uncles, Jay Willingham (Liza), and Lane Willingham (Joanna); aunt, Tina McMurry (Bradley); cousins, Cade Willingham, Josie Willingham, Zoey McMurry, Jacob Willingham and Luke Willingham; plus countless friends and loved ones. Shelby is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jerry and Emma Willingham, and her paternal grandmother, Bettye Rushing. Shelby was a beautiful, intelligent, passionate young woman, who loved and was loved deeply by her family members and her extended online family and friends. She was a strong advocate for animals of all kinds, and especially loved her cats. She lived for a time in Lexington, Kentucky, and later in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, returning home to Jackson in 2018. Her wishes were to be cremated so that loved ones could take a part of her to a place they loved, and she would always be there. SERVICE: Visitation with family and friends will be held Monday, March 7, 2022, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Arrington Funeral Directors. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date.
