Serena T. Helms

Serena Thompson Helms, 98, went home to be with the Lord and the love of her life, Billie T. Helms and son, John W. Helms, on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Forest Cove Nursing Center of Jackson. A native of the Browns Community, she was born on September 17, 1917 the daughter of the late William S. and Margaret Laws Thompson. She was a graduate of the Browns High School where she played basketball. She was retired from the Shiloh Regional Library with more than twenty-five years of employment at the age of 75. Upon her retirement, she took the role of caregiver to many of her family. Serena was known for her well maintained yard and flowers. She loved to fish and was a fantastic cook. She was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church of Jackson.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Helms Skipper and husband, Jim, of Jackson, TN and a grandson, Jimmie A. Whittemore, Jr. and his wife Holly of Jonesborough, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie T. Helms in 1967 and son, John W. Helms in 1971, along with her two sisters, Kathleen Thompson & Marjorie Steele.
SERVICES: The family will be receiving friends on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Arrington. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Browns Cemetery with Rev. Dan Bruce officiating.
