Sally Tumbaga Carter, age 87, of Jackson, TN, passed away at her residence in Jackson on Monday, September 27, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Sally was born in Honolulu, HI, on October 9, 1933, to the late Dionicio L. Tumbaga and Nellie Edadez. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Ronald Eugene Carter, Sr., her sisters, Juanita Augustiro Jeraldine Tumbaga, Sadie Roberson, Marie Kuulei Tumbaga; brother, Bernard Tumbaga; and, most recently, her son-in-law, David E. Smith.
Survivors include her brothers, Roger Tumbaga, Jerry Tumbaga, and Glenn Tumbaga; three sons, Darrel Gongob of Hawaii, Ronald E. Carter, Jr. (Letitia) of New Bern, NC, and John D. Carter of Hubert, NC; five daughters, Joslyn Wilson (Roosevelt) of Silverdale, WA, Rowena Perreira of Hawaii; Wynette Tompkins (Shawn) of Tulsa, OK, Sharon Smith (Dave) of Jackson, TN, and Mary Avery (Johnny) of New Bern, NC; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. To all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sally was known as Nanny, and she loved all of them with all her heart.
Sally’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of West Tennessee of Jackson, Leilani and Scott Mills and Letitia Carter for the loving care and support of Sally Carter. They are truly angels and our family will always be grateful to them!
SERVICES: The family will be receiving friends during a memorial visitation Thursday, September 30, 2021, from 11:00AM until 1:00PM at Arrington Funeral Directors.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be directed to Alzheimer’s Association Mid-South Chapter, 478 Craighead St, Suite 200, Nashville, TN 37201.
