Funeral services for Roy Brown Morgan, Sr., 84, will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Dan Camp officiating. Burial will follow in White Rose Cemetery in Gibson, TN with Masonic Rites and Police Honors. Mr. Morgan died on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at his residence.Roy was born in Jackson, TN on May 27, 1926, the son of the late Homer and Vera Piercey Morgan. He graduated from Jackson City Schools and attended Memphis State University. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Mr. Morgan was a former member of the Jackson Police Department serving for nineteen years and achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He later was employed with Owens Corning Fiberglass for eighteen years as Purchasing Agent.Roy was very active in his community serving as an elected member of the Madison County Court (Now County Commission) from 1966 - 1968 and was elected to the Jackson City Council serving from 1989 to 1999. He served on the Jackson Madison County Hospital Board of Trustees from 1972 to 1975. He was a member of St. John?s Masonic Lodge 332 and was the oldest living Past Master. He was a Past President of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers Association and past national officer of the Fraternal Order of Police. He served as a Little League coach for FOP for eleven years and was a member of the Little League Hall of Fame. He was a former member of the Jackson Lions Club and was honored to serve on various community boards over the years, such as JACOA, Jackson Mental Health and Youth Town. He was a member of Forest Heights United Methodist Church.Roy is survived by his wife of sixty-two years Helen Campbell Morgan of Jackson, TN; his children, Mary Elizabeth Norville and husband Pete of Jackson, TN and Judge Roy B. Morgan, Jr. and wife Jackie of Jackson, TN; grandchildren, Tyler Roy Morgan and wife Amber of Bessemer, AL and Bradley Morgan Norville of Oxford, MS and a brother Herbert Norris Morgan of Arlington, VA.He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Morgan, Mary Ruth Sharer, Martha Lee McKay and brothers, John B. Morgan and Howell Morgan.Pallbearers to serve will be Greg Alexander, Ike Castellaw, Felix Fly, Ken Marston, Donald Richardson and Johnny Williams.The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday from 4:00 Pm until 7:00 PM at Arrington Funeral Directors.
