Peggy Welshans Williamson

November 29, 1934 — March 3, 2022

Peggy Welshans Williamson, age 87, passed away on March 3, 2022, from complications following a stroke.

Peggy was born and raised in Friendship, Tennessee. She graduated from Friendship High School as Valedictorian and earned a BS degree in Accounting from Memphis State College. She first worked as a teacher, and then for the state of Tennessee as an auditor. She earned a CPA and worked as the Treasurer for United Methodist Communications until her retirement in 1996.

Peggy and Tom Welshans were married for twenty-five years and raised their four children in Memphis, Tennessee, Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Hendersonville, Tennessee. Ten years after his death, she remarried. Peggy and her second husband, Jack, were married for twenty-four years and relocated to Jackson, Tennessee, when she retired. In 2019, she moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to be close to some of her children and grandchildren.

Peggy was happiest when her house was full of family and visitors. She especially loved spending time on the water whether it was at the Welshans’ cabin on the lake in Arkansas or her house at Lake Barkley in Kentucky. Peggy also enjoyed spending time with friends from Friendship High School, and she always looked forward to annual trips with her cousins.

She is survived by her four children: Catherine Rankin (Sterling), Cynthia Holt (Tim), Wilson Welshans, and Vanessa Welshans (Bill); her six grandchildren Aron Cantor, Chloe Cantor L’Estrange (Will), Dayne, Tom, Audrey, and Nick Welshans; and her sister Marian Heathcott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Welshans, her second husband, Jack Williamson; and her parents, Hubert and Fern Welch.
