Norma Jean Thompson

November 3, 1930 — February 20, 2018

Norma Jean Thompson, age 87, died on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Norma Jean was born on November 3, 1930 the daughter of the late Thomas Clemont and Delia McDaniel Wallis. She was married to James Harold Thompson who preceded her in death in 2008. She was retired from Sears of Jackson. She was a member of Bible Grove Baptist Church of sixty-three years.
Norma Jean accepted Jesus as her personal savior as a young girl while attending West Jackson Baptist Church. Anytime she spoke with someone she would speak of her Christian faith, as well as, encouraging and complimenting people. She was a simple woman who liked simple things. Visiting with friends, cooking, sharing recipes and trying new recipes were very special to her. She loved her church and her Sunday school class and was willing to help anyone. Even after losing both of her legs to Lupus, Norma Jean was a beacon of light to all who knew her. She lived an independent life and never complained and was an encourager and helper. One of her joys was to grocery shop. A trip to Kroger was so fun for her, as she talked to anyone she met and always tipping the employees.
The following came from Mrs. Thompson’s Bible. I Love you Jesus, you mean everything to me. I want to be a vessel of service for you until I breathe my last breath. Amen.
She is survived by her sons, Tommy Thompson, Brad Thompson and wife Suzy and Michael Thompson and wife Linda; nine grandchildren, James Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Leigh Ann Garst, Hannah Thompson, Nathan Thompson, Rebecca Thompson, Mary Kaitlyn Thompson, Anna Marie Thompson and Wesley Thompson and four great grandchildren, Cooper Thompson, Dianne Thompson, Jonah Garst and Eli Garst. She is also survived by a special niece Belinda Straznicky that was dear to her heart.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by a son Jeffrey Thompson and a granddaughter, Beth Ann Thompson.
