Neil M. ?Hugs? Gilbert, of Macon, passed away Tuesday January 11, 2011. Funeral services 2:00 P.M. Sunday In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Riverside UMC building fund, 735 Pierce Ave, Macon, GA 31204; Lambuth UMC, 160 Campbell Street, Jackson, TN 38301; Lambuth University, 705 Lambuth Blvd, Jackson, TN 38301, the Shriners Hospitals for Children International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, or to Hospice of Central Georgia, 858 High St., Macon, GA 31201.Mr. Gilbert was born and raised in Jackson, TN where he graduated from Lambuth College. He prospered in his career as Chief Chemist and Technical Director of American Biltrite Rubber Company in Ripley, MS until he retired in 1980. Mr. Gilbert was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church during which he performed numerous service rolls. He was also a life member in good standing of the Masons and the Shriners. He was a member of the Blue Lodge in Ripley, MS, the Scottish Rite in Corinth, MS, the Hamasa Shriners in Meridian, MS and The Shriners International. Mr. Gilbert also served as past Patron, Order of The Eastern Star. Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Maggie Lou Gilbert, his brother, Russell Gilbert and his son, Robert Allen Gilbert. Survivors: Wife, Pat Gilbert of Macon, GA; Son, Richard R. Gilbert of Mount Juliet, TN; Nephew, Rusty (Gayle) Gilbert of Jackson, TN; Niece, Pam (Jim) LaBlanc of Trabuco Canyon, CA; Great nephew, Air Force Captain Corey Gilbert of Japan; Great nephew, Army 1st Lieutenant Brett Gilbert of Fayetteville, NC; Great great nephew, T-Brett Gilbert of Fayetteville, NC and a number of cousins.
