Mary L. Newman, age 86, died peacefully on November 7, 2021, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born in Raleigh, Illinois on January 17, 1935, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruby Karnes Upchurch. She was married to Ed Newman who preceded her in death in 1999. Mary was a very active member of Northside Church, volunteering in numerous areas of the children's ministry, Wednesday fellowship meals, and various boards and committees. She had a zest for life and interacting with those around her. Mary enjoyed a long career as a realtor in the Jackson area. She was active in her industry and community, having served on the local Board of Realtors, The Chamber Red Coats, and RIFA. Mary was also a member of the Evergreen Garden Club.
She is survived by her three daughters, Kim Priddy and husband Jimmy, Wanda Scanlon and husband Pat, and Patsy Hollman and husband Jim, all of Jackson, TN; two brothers, Jim Upchurch of Jackson, TN and Dave Upchurch of Lexington, TN; ten grandchildren, Kelly Breazeale and husband Steve, Sarah Reese and husband Josh, Rebecca Muncie and husband Kyle, Emily Priddy and husband Steven Dorris, Lauralee Hise and husband Tripp, Edward Scanlon and wife Tess, William Scanlon, Russell Hollman and wife Holly, Alex Hollman and wife Jessica and Luke Hollman; and ten great grandchildren, Allie Breazeale, Ben Breazeale, Sam Reese, Ann Marie Muncie, Chase Hise, Marymac Hise, Patrick Hise, Ward Scanlon, Claire Scanlon and Ava Hollman.
Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Upchurch and Dale Upchurch.
MEMORIAL SERVICES: A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of Northside Church on Saturday, November 13, 2021, with Rev. Daphne Moses and Rev. Gerry Campbell officiating.
The family will be receiving friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
