Martha Bates

Funeral services for Martha Bates, 86, will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday February 14, 2011 at Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Lonnie Sanders officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Mrs. Bates died Friday February 11, 2011 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Martha was born October 16, 1924 in Union City, TN the daughter of the late Frank Paul and Maudie Utley Rainey. She attended Jackson Jr. High and graduated from Jackson High School in 1942. She received a Bachelor Degree in Education at Union University in 1970. Mrs. Bates taught in Jackson city schools and taught 6th grades at South Jackson, Andrew Jackson and Lincoln, retiring in 1989. She was a longtime member of West Jackson Baptist Church.She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rev. Dan Bates; a son Robert Frank ?Bobby? and wife Sue; a daughter Diane Bates Deschenes and husband Paul; a sister Dorothy Jean Wilson and husband Ted; a brother D. Glenn Rainey and wife Geraldine; grandchildren Daniel Paul and Anna Marie Deschenes, as well as several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by a grandson Gabriel Nino Bates and a nephew David Glenn Wilson.Memorials may be directed to West Jackson Baptist Church Music Ministry.The family will receive friends Sunday February 13, 2011 from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.Arrington Funeral Directors148 W.
