Linda Kay Powers

May 24, 1946 — April 17, 2020

Linda Kay Powers has been reunited with her husband, parents and other dear friends but most importantly she is now in the presence of Jesus. I think it’s ok to be jealous of where she is now, although she will be greatly missed by those left here.

Chances are you might not know her as Linda Kay Powers. You might know her as Mrs. Powers, Miss Linda, Linda K, Mom, Belinda or even Ethel. It really just depends how you knew her. If you need some explanation about Ethel, ask one of her sons. Chances are they’ll just laugh because it’s a long story. These are all different names of the same person, different chapters of a single book if you will. One thing is for sure, if you were lucky enough to really know her in any chapter of your life, she helped write part of your story.

She lived a life dedicated to making others' lives better. She loved kids. Which led her to a career in teaching until she had 3 sons of her own. At that point, she knew that the most important teaching to be done would be the raising of her kids at home. She also loved teaching kids at First Indian Baptist Church. Her and her husband served for 26 years there until her husband, Bro. Mike, passed away. The relationships made during that time go beyond normal friendships and are now family. She loved this family.

She loved to travel, to go new places and meet new people and do new things. She looked forward to the annual tradition of spending Christmas in Gatlinburg. Maybe more than travel, it was really the time with family that she enjoyed.

Mom seemed to always know someone no matter where she went. Even if she hadn’t seen someone in years, she always wanted to know the latest with their family. For most of these people, Mom and Dad photographed their wedding. I would often ask Mom how she knew someone, she would simply say, “Many moons ago, Dad and I took their wedding pictures.” Other times she would reply, “I don’t know how I know them, but don’t tell them that!” Mom put people at ease and allowed them to be themselves with her.

There was nothing she loved more than her 3 sons. Nothing at all. Until her 5 granddaughters came along. And that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

Mom made a difference in the lives of others by always having time to listen and encourage others. People would leave Mom with a smile on their face. We hope that during these difficult times, after reading this, you now have a smile on your face. If so, this is exactly what Mom would have wanted.

SERVICES: A private graveside service will be held at Ridgecrest Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
