Juanita Hammett

December 16, 1929 — April 22, 2013

Juanita Hammett, 83, of Jackson, TN passed away April 22, 2013, in Memphis, TN. Juanita was born on December 16, 1929 the daughter of the late Roy and Ila Hammett of Hollow Rock, TN where she grew up.
Juanita graduated from Hollow Rock – Bruceton High School as valedictorian of her class. She received a teaching certificate from Lambuth College in Jackson, a Bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay College in Clarksville and a Master’s of Education from Memphis State in Memphis. She spent forty years teaching elementary school in Carroll, Montgomery and Madison counties. She served as supervising teacher for student teachers from Lambuth, Union and Lane Colleges. Many summers were spent teaching Head Start.
She is survived by a brother, Roy Hammett and wife Phyllis of Dover, DE; her nieces, Cynthia Doskocil of Flagstaff, AZ, Bonnie Doskocil of Scottsdale, AZ, Melinda Dunham (her children, Paige, Beth and Alex Dunham) of Collierville, TN, Teresa Stephens of Afton, VA, Kendra Meadows of Durham, NC, Connie Lisinski of Dover, DE, Beckie Veronesi of Tampa, FL; a nephew, Joel Sweeten Vancouver, WA and a brother in law, Ken Meadows.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Maurine Wilkins, Eloise Leafty and Jonnie Meadows.
Memorials may be directed to: Forest Heights United Methodist Church 863 W. Forest Ave. Jackson, TN 38301.
Services: 11:00 A.M Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. John Middleton officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M until time of service at the funeral home.
