Horace N. "Hot" Elkins

H.N. “Hot” Elkins, 85, died on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
“Hot” was born on April 1, 1929 in Gibson County, the son of the late Mathew and Aline Fly Elkins. He attended Jackson City Schools and married his high school sweetheart Margaret Forsythe on August 8, 1951, who preceded him in death in 2011. They were married for sixty years. For thirty-six years he was President of Elkins Insurance Inc., retiring on August 15, 1993. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for Bass. He was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church for eighty years and loved his church family, the Bill Fowler Sunday School Class.
“Hot” was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 332 of Jackson, TN, a 32 degree member of the Scotish Rite Body in Memphis, a member of the Al Chymia Shrine Temple, Memphis, a member of the York Rite of Memphis, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters of which he was a director in 2003 and a member of the Quetalcoatl. “Hot” was quick witted and full of humor. He was a master at telling a story or joke.
He is survived by his second wife, Bea Long Elkins of Jackson, TN; two granddaughters, Sara E. Taylor and husband Henry of Jackson, TN and Priscilla McNeal of Cordova, TN.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael N. Elkins, a brother, Robert H. Elkins and two sisters, Sue Crockett and Peggy Land.
SERVICES: A funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, January 4, 2015 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Ron Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Arrington Funeral Directors.
Pallbearers will be Paul Scott, Curtis Mansfield, Marty Coleraine, James Linton, Bill Fowler, Danny Waynick, Dr. Tony Emison and Dick Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Scott and the members of the Bill Fowler Sunday School Class, Bill Whisel, Tom Turner, Jim Dyer, Thomas McConnico, Bill McDaniel, Dr. Roger Price, Harvey Lee Curlin, Gene Curlin, Paul Phillips, Charles McGuire and Ray Scott.
Memorials are requested to be directed to West Jackson Baptist Church, 580 Oil Well Road, Jackson, TN 38305 or to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital c/o Al Chymia Shrine Temple, 5770 Shady Oaks Drive, Memphis, TN 38134.
