Frances Griffin Phillips

Frances G. Phillips, born July 14, 1929 in Gibson County to Bernice H. Griffin and Myrtle Lee Griffin. Graduated from Bradford High School in 1947. Pursued a degree in education, attending UT Martin and graduate of Lambuth College. Frances taught 1st and 4th grades, last teaching at Pope Elementary School.
Frances gave her heart to God at Griffins Chapel Church in Bradford, TN. She later attended Forest Heights United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN where she taught Sunday school classes for children. She was known as the “Cookie Lady” for making cookies each Sunday for the MYF. Frances was active on the board and a member of United Methodist Women as well. She was currently a member at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN.
Frances, known as “Mother” to three children, but will always be known as “Maw” to her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Frances enjoyed family get-togethers, often seen in the kitchen preparing dinners and deserts. She will always be missed for her strong faith, her open arms of love, and her pride in her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dr. Charles D. Griffin, and grandson Joseph Griffin Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her children, Dr. John Phillips and wife Cathey of Parsons, TN, Dr. Susan Buckelew and husband Dennis of Union City, TN and Leanne Laub and husband Mark of Bartlett, TN. Her grandchildren, John Michael Phillips and wife Bethany, David Phillips, Mark Laub Jr. and wife Tammy, Chris Laub and wife Katherine, Tyler Buckelew and Steven Buckelew. Great grandchildren, Jaxson, Jase, Griffin, Knox and Beau Phillips, Nathan, Makenzie, and Kain Laub. A sister in law, Helen Griffin, 2 nephews and 1 niece.

SERVICES: Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Paul Clayton officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers – Grandchildren, John M. Phillips, David Phillips, Mark Laub Jr., Chris Laub, Tyler Buckelew and Steven Buckelew.
Honorary pallbearers – Cousins, Dale and Judith Crockett, Frankie Crockett and Joan Capps.
The family will receive friends Wednesday March 18, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
