Dr. John Reid Bonson, Sr.

Dr. John R. Bonson, Sr., age 71, died on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in Foley, AL, while vacationing with his family.
A native of Jackson, TN, he was born on March 7, 1945 the son of the late William R and Martha Talmadge Allen Bonson. He was a 1967 graduate of Lambuth College and earned his Masters of Divinity from Vanderbilt in 1970. He served as dean of students at Lincoln Memorial University before serving as directors of administrative services at Lambuth College from 1976 to 1986. He was the director of education at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital from 1986 to 1989 and served on the Madison County Commission in the early 1990. He preached at Aldersgate United Methodist Church from 1972 to 2002, Trinity UMC in Memphis from 2002 to 2006 and Lambuth Memorial UMC from 2006 to 2009. After leaving Lambuth Memorial UMC in 2009, he was the director of connectional ministries for the Memphis Conference until 2013, when he took over as pastor of Trinity UNC in Haywood County and St. Paul UMC in Lauderdale County.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Robyn Reiners Bonson of Jackson, TN; a daughter Ashley Drown and husband Seth and their daughter, Katelyn of Jackson, TN; a son, Jay Bonson and wife Beth and their sons, Benjamin and Joshua of Franklin, TN; a uncle, Paul Lincoln Phillips, Sr. of Jackson and a nephew, Allen Phillips of Jackson, TN
SERVICES: A funeral service will be held at 1 :00 PM Friday, July 1, 2016 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Dr. David Lewis and Rev. Wayne Fesmire officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Aldersgate United Methodist Church prior to the funeral service.
