Dorothy Mcneil Elam

A memorial service for Dorothy McNeil Elam, 81, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Jackson with Rev. Dan Bruce and Dr. Justin Wainscott officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church on Thursday beginning at 10:00 AM. Mrs. Elam died on Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital surrounded by her family.Dot was born in Philadelphia, MS on July 18, 1929, the daughter of the late Van and Zealous McNeil. She was married to Robert K. Elam who preceded her in death in 2002. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Jackson serving in various areas. Dot enjoyed traveling and doing for others, as she spent much of her later years caring for family and friends.She is survived by two daughters, Susan Flexner and husband Peter of Great Falls, VA; Katherine Sanford of Jackson, TN; a son-in-law, Tom Hall of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren, Kathryn Flexner, Will Flexner, Graham Sanford, Hannah Smith and husband Jeremie, Taylor Sanford, Tanner Sanford and Chloe Sanford, Allison Hall and Samuel Hall; great grandchild, Harrison Smith and a nephew, Gary Deaton and his wife Marilyn of Jackson, TN.She was preceded in death by a daughter Cindy Hall and two sisters Margie Wolfe and Rubye Deaton.
