Dorothy Jean Parish McCoy, 81, of Jackson passed away peacefully Sunday, April 1 at Maplewood Health Care Center after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 9, 1930, to the parents of Ernest and Elizabeth Parish and graduated from Jackson High School in 1948. On June 30, 1950, she married the love of her life, Robert A. ?Bob? McCoy. They raised three children and dedicated their lives to working with children and youth in the community. Jean had great compassion for children and spent her entire career serving them. She began this journey by helping start a preschool program at Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church, serving as director and teacher. She then served as head teacher for the Salvation Army Preschool Center. She spent the last fifteen years of her career working as the administrator of the West TN Cerebral Palsy Center of Jackson. Her love for these special children and their families encompassed her every being. She is survived by her three children Mack McCoy (Merika Avery) of Nashville, David McCoy (Allyson) of Jackson, and Carol McCoy Nelson (Don) of Jackson and her loving grandchildren Heather McCoy (Sam Riggan) of Nashville, Ryan McCoy (Tyler) of Smyrna, Mary Elizabeth McCoy Phillips (Jacob) of Maben, MS, Anna McCoy of Jackson, Holly Nelson Schwettman (Logan) of Murray, KY, and Hagen Nelson of Jackson. She is also survived by her dear sister-in- law Melinda McCoy of Phenix City, AL, and several nieces, nephews and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother- in-law John McCoy and daughter-in-law Jan McCoy. A celebration of her life will be held at Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 5 at 1 p.m. with her nephew Jonathan Jordan and her pastor Dr. Gary Morse officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Pallbearers are Rocky Acuff, Tim Adams, Paul Chaplin, Phillip Evans, Butch Hawks, Jimmy Hawks, Mark Hawks, and David Warmbrod. The Oxley Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held at Arrington Funeral Home Wednesday, April 4 from 4 ? 7 p.m. and an hour prior to the service at the church. She requested that memorials be sent to Lambuth Memorial UMC, Youth Town, or RIFA. The family would like to thank their extended family at Jackson Oaks who loved and cared for Jean the past two years and her dear friends who stayed by her side for a lifetime.
