Betty Carla Jacobs

August 16, 1951 — October 20, 2021

Betty Carla Jacobs, age 70, peacefully transitioned from this life to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

She was born the daughter of the late Rev. J.G. and Betty (Rogers) Wise on Thursday, August 16, 1951, in Jackson, TN. Other than her parents, Carla is preceded in death by her beloved son-in-law, Troy Miller.

After graduating from Humboldt High School, Carla received her bachelor’s degree from Union University, Master of Library Science from the University of Tennessee, Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and her Doctor of Education (ABD) from the University of Memphis. She taught elementary school in Dyersburg, TN and Trezevant, TN. Carla served in Paraguay as a Missionary Journeyman for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board. She was Dean of Library Science at both Union University in Jackson, TN and Franklin College in Franklin, IN, and worked for the State of Tennessee as Regional Library Director of the Hatchie River Region which serves much of West Tennessee.

Carla married the love of her life, Jerry Jacobs on November 28, 1992, and they completed their family with the blending of their lives and three daughters, Jennifer, Angela and Rebecca. She enjoyed every moment spent with her family and made every attempt to make sure each one knew how much they were treasured.

Carla was a very kind, gentle soul. She loved everyone she encountered unconditionally and was loved in return. Her life’s journey told a story of giving and a story of faith. Carla loved the Lord and was an active member of West Jackson Baptist Church where she and Jerry taught together in the preschool ministry until her health prevented her from attending.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Jacobs; daughters, Jennifer Weeks and husband, John, Angela Jacobs, and Rebecca Miller; grandsons, Jacob and Lucas Miller; and her sister, Carol Williams, all of Jackson, TN.
