Ms. Betty Edwards, 83, of Jackson, Tennessee passed away on May 17, 2016 at her residence.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 4:00 PM Friday, May 20, 2016 at Arrington Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family will be receiving friends on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Arrington Funeral Directors.
Betty, the daughter of the late Ona Newman Nance and L.O. Nance, was born on February 18, 1933, in Jackson, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Lambuth College and later received her Master’s degree in Education from the University of Memphis. She began her teaching career as an English teacher in Bloomfield, Missouri and later taught for the Jackson Madison County School System. For many years she was an English teacher at West High School in Denmark, Tennessee. Betty’s passion was reading books, photography and working on her family genealogy. She was a past member of the “Friends of the Jackson Madison County Library”.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy Edwards, Akle Nance and Larry Nance.
Survivors include her two sisters, Hilda Nance and Mary Ann Hamblen (Bruce) of Jackson, Tennessee; three nieces, Denise Fairley, Rebecca Bowers and Hillary Richardson and four nephews, Michael Nance, Brian Hamblen, Mark Bardsfield and Tommy Nance and a special friend and caregiver, Mary Kellum.
The family would like to thank the staff at Avalon Hospice for their love and care.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Jackson Madison County Library.
