William "Bill" Lewis Whisel

July 22, 1936 — April 13, 2015

William Lewis Whisel, age 78, of Jackson, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 13, 2015, at his residence. He was born July 22, 1936, in Everett, Pennsylvania, the son of William Jesse and Elmira Myra Redinger Whisel. He retired from the Quaker Oats Company where he was an Engineering Development Manager. Mr. Whisel served in the United States Air Force. He moved to Jackson, Tennessee over 40 years ago from Crystal Lake, Illinois and was a member of Northside United Methodist Church. He was a member of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge 332, Scottish Rite 33 degree; Al Chymia Shrine Temple of Memphis, Tennessee and affiliated appended bodies; the Shriner Burn Hospital; Youth Town of Tennessee; and Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed fishing, home remodeling and repairs, church projects and being with his family. His legacy was that he always tried to live for God and do what God intended for him to do by serving others.
Mr. Whisel is survived by his wife, Bernice Louise Whisel of 57 years, of the home; two sons: David Wesley Whisel and his wife, Tonoa, of Springdale, Arkansas and William Douglas Whisel of Santa Maria, California; two daughters: Brenda Lee Casey and her husband, David, of Millington, Tennessee, and Karen Lynn Smith and her husband, Joey, of Bartlett, Tennessee. One brother, Ronald Wesley Whisel; five sisters: Doris Jean Williams; Donna Lou Sponsler, Patricia Sue Zook, Betty Maria Koontz, and Linda Lee Felton; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral and Masonic Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday April 16, 2015 at Northside United Methodist Church with burial following in the Highland Memorial Garden with Dr. Don Thrasher officiating. Visitation will held Thursday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrington Funeral Directors 148 W.
