Robert E. “Bob” Blackmon, 91, died Wednesday evening July 3, 2013 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Bob was born June 15, 1922, the son of the late Joseph Franklin Blackmon and Bessie Arvilla Blackmon. He served during WW II in United States Army. He was a 33rd degree Mason, a charter member of the Old Hickory Lions Club; he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow from Lions Club International Foundation and awarded life membership of Lions Club International. Bob was a Life Deacon at West Jackson Baptist Church, Chairman of the usher committee, Sunday School Director as well as accepting many other duties and responsibilities at the church. He served as a board member of Madison-Haywood Developmental Center. Bob spent his working career as an Insurance agent associated with many independent insurance agencies in Jackson.
He is survived by one daughter, Gwen Stewart and husband Max, of Jackson, TN, one son, Bob Blackmon, Jr and wife Marilynn of Lexington, TN, three grandchildren, Heather Shaffer , Ashley Dorough, Alexander Stewart (Xan), two great Grandchildren, Kallie Gaither and Bryson Shaffer.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bernice “Miss B” Richerson Blackmon.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 12:00 noon at West Jackson Baptist Church with Bro. Ron Hale officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the funeral hour at 12:00PM at the church. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family has requested memorial contributions be directed to the Building Fund , West Jackson Baptist Church, 580 Oil Well Rd, Jackson, TN 38305.
