John Glass Dickinson Jr.

JOHN GLASS DICKINSON, JR.

John Glass Dickinson, Jr., born February 3, 1926, passed away late Monday evening, December 9, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Leggett Dickinson; his parents, John Glass and Mary Hudson Dickinson; sister Lois Carolyn Roberts and her husband, Lymon L. (Buster) Roberts; sister Mary Virginia Frey and her husband, Bryan L. Frey; and sister Evelyn Rose Batson and her husband, Robert J. Batson. Mr. Dickinson is survived by his daughter, DeeAnn Dickinson Ketcherside; son-in-law, John F. Ketcherside; and son, John Glass Dickinson, III.
Mr. Dickinson was born at the family “homeplace” near Mercer, Tennessee. He was a proud veteran, having served his country in the Korean war. He was an alumni of Union University, a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and served on Union University’s Board of Directors. He received his theology degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Mr. Dickinson was a Southern Baptist Minister of Education and served in churches in Jackson, Tennessee; Mayfield, Kentucky; Marietta, Georgia; Union City, Tennessee; and Lake Charles, Louisiana. He loved serving his Lord and loved to sing. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church of Brownsville, Tennessee, where he was active in the church choir and served as a deacon for many years. His life was a testament to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The family would like to thank Maplewood Health Care and Elmcroft of Jackson for their kindness and compassion.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church, 885 Woodland Church Road, Brownsville, Tennessee, with Dr. Mike Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Ilene Barcroft, 955 Hubert Barcroft Road, Brownsville, TN 38012; or the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home, Memorial and Honor Gifts, P.O. Box 2206, Brentwood, TN 37024.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 12, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Arrington Funeral Home, 148 W. University Parkway, Jackson, Tennessee, and for one hour prior to the service on Friday, December 13 at Woodland Baptist Church.
