James Welch, 76, died Thursday morning, March 20, 2014 at his residence.
He was born April 27, 1937 in Medina, TN the son of the late Aaron Welch and Myra Donavan Welch.
He graduated from Medina High School, began a radio and television career at an early age and continued until which time he joined Wilson Sporting Goods where he was a part of the Wilson team for 18 years. He emceed the Miss Tennessee Pageant for several years and was a member of the Lions Club, the Board of Directors of Humboldt General Hospital, and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Humboldt, TN.
James is survived by his wife Shirley, of Humboldt, TN, one son Alan Welch and wife Trish of St. Simons Island, GA, one daughter Janet Sells and husband Tim of Mobile, AL, three grandchildren, Taylor Welch, Caitlyn Sells and Connor Sells. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Archie Welch.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 2:00PM at First Baptist Church of Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM at Arrington Funeral Directors. A private family burial will be in Centerville Cemetery.
The deacons of First Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
