Doris Mae Mccubbin Clark

July 22, 1923 — March 14, 2018

Doris Mae McCubbin Clark, 94, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
A native of Ulman, MO, Doris was born on July 22, 1923, the daughter of the late Virgil and Mae Catron McCubbin. She was married to Dr. Paul B. Clark, Sr., who preceded her in death in December 2005. Mrs. Clark was a faithful pastor’s wife for fifty-six years exhibiting that quiet and gentle spirit which is precious to the Lord. She attended Southwest Baptist College and graduated from Baylor University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Before marrying, Doris taught music in high school and then was a collegiate music educator in music and organ at Southwest Baptist College in Missouri. She taught piano for approximately sixty years to literally hundreds of young students. She instilled in countless lives the love for music and specifically the love for church music. She was the church organist in every church where her husband Paul, was pastor which included churches in Kentucky, Michigan, Oklahoma and Tennessee. In Jackson she served as the organist at Calvary Baptist for approximately twenty-six years. After “Pastor Paul” retired from his pastorate there, she went to North Jackson Baptist to serve as organist there before retiring those special organ shoes. She also accompanied numerous Baptist denominational events and services over the years. She instilled a love for music and its potential ministries in all four of her children, who all are or have been involved in church music ministry in church or state staff positions or in lay leadership through the music ministries of their individual churches. She loved to sew and was an extraordinary seamstress making lots of clothing for her daughters as well as, items for her home. Truly it can be said that Doris Clark was a picture of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. Indeed, “her children rise up and call her blessed and her husband praised her.”
“Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her the product of her hands, and let her works praise her in the Gates.” (Proverbs 31: 29-31)
She is survived by her children, Paul B. Clark, Jr and wife Ebbie of Hendersonville, TN; Teresa Wood and husband Gerald of Jackson, TN; Ricky Clark and wife Sandra of Bowling Green, KY and Malesa Dyer and husband Marty of Jackson, TN; ten grandchildren, Angie Scallion and husband Brigham, Kiley Doyle and husband Kris, Ben Clark and wife Kelly, Adam Clark and wife Heather, Elizabeth Evans and husband Daniel, Allyson Barden and husband Justin, Austin Clark and wife Leah, Justin Dyer, Lauryn Dyer and Kaylen Dyer and twenty-one great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Troy McCubbin and a sister, Helen Sams.
