Christopher Shannon York

Christopher Shannon York died on April 13, 2017, in Washington, D.C. after a sudden heart attack.
He was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on February 1, 1972, to Ms. Helen Bonney York, and Ronald York. Shannon and his family moved to Jackson in 1977. In addition to his parents, Shannon leaves his sister, Alison Pollock (Steve), his brother, Jon York (Felicia), nieces and nephews, Rebecca King (Zachary), Jacob Pollock, Elizabeth Flowers (Richard), Keegan York, and Jon Christian York. Shannon was predeceased by two extraordinary people in his life, his grandfather, Albert Bonney, and his favorite person, Tom Price.
Shannon graduated from Jackson Central Merry High School in 1990 and from Lambuth University with a B.A. in history and English and a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Rhode Island. He was employed by Internews for 17 years where he served as the Director of Business and Operations for Asia and Europe and Eurasia. Shannon traveled the world through his work and in recreation and spent a considerable amount of time in Afghanistan.
A service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 4 p.m., at Arrington Funeral Home, with visitation from 2 to 4 prior to the service. There will be a reception following the service at the New Southern Hotel in downtown Jackson.
Memorials may be made to the Internews Shannon York Media Response Fund for Asia & Eurasia, designed to support innovative opportunities or emergency response support to Internews partners and local staff from across the regions he loved and supported with such care.
